The National Wood Flooring Association has developed guidelines for Engineered floors to be considered “Refinishable.” This is significant because it will identify floors that have the wear layer thick enough to be refinished. We have seen literally thousands of engineered hardwoods flood the market that offer the promise of value pricing, only for customers to be disappointed when they find out these quickly worn floors need to be ripped out. In my own experience I have seen instances where these types of floors have failed in 6 months. Putting this standard in place will help unknowing customers educate themselves on the right product for them.
